Steve is an international Hemp consultant, author and also the director of the International Hemp Building Symposium. He advises on hemp building projects and is currently working on plans to develop hemp production and building products for several enterprises.

Damien is the inventor of the interlocking Hempcrete block by Vicat and of Ereasy a new spray system using less than half the normal quantity of binder. He works in the east of France building and renovating houses with Hempcrete.

Hemp entry to the Africa Solar Decathlon 2019
Monika has been involved in Hemp Building for over 22 years having started her Cannabric business in Spain in 1999, developing her unique hemp-clay bricks. She has since 2014 been working in Morocco in the High Central Rif with local Berber peoples for the Adrah Nouh project, where the waste material from the Hashish production is being used to repair traditional stone houses and to build new ones. The cooperative worked on a design of a prototype hemp house for the Solar Decathlon Africa Competition held in Morocco in September 2019.

Roger is Hanfkalk-Berlin a practicing architect who has a wealth of experience to cover all phases of a hemp construction project; together with Henrik, engineer specialist in the planning and implementation of hemp lime projects and Reinhold; who is the building company Straub Hanf & Kalk have teamed up to create the Hanfbaukollektiv a group active in promoting and building with hempcrete in Germany.

Classifying Hempcrete Latest Results
Formerly involved with setting up the UK’s first sheepswool insulation company, Liam is now a part time lecturer at Technical University Dublin and as part of his Ph. studies at Technological University TU Dublin, Liam has researched with Steve Allin a variety of aspects of how this material works and as consequence, investigating thermal effects on a range of hempcrete materials gives him an interesting perspective on how testing should be carried out. He will present an update to his findings on the subject at the symposium. He is also a co-director of the IHBA.

Graham Durrant has a BSc Hons degree in Conservation Management and studied for an MSc Architecture Degree in Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies in the UK. He is the company director of Hemp-Lime Spray Ltd based in Norfolk and has many years of experience using a hempcrete spray machine to install hempcrete with. He has also recently been invited to become a co-director of HempTank, the nascent hemp policy think tank.

Summer Islam is involved with Material Cultures a not-for-profit research organisation working at the intersection of low embodied carbon and high efficiency off-site construction.

Ian Pritchett is managing director at Greencore Construction Ltd. in the UK. A physics graduate from Durham University with over 25 years experience in historic building repair and eco-buildings, he previously was managing director at both IJP Building Conservation, and Lime Technology Ltd.

Paolo Ronchetti is the director of TecnoCanapa Bioedilizia, formerly Equilibrium which is now part of the Senini Group. He will give an update on the developments using their blocks and spray technologies.

Lawrence has been in the hemp industry for 29 years since 1990. He is currently the owner and president of Hemp Traders and CannaGrove. He is the current chair of the California Industrial Hemp Advisory Board, founder of the California Hemp Industries Association and former president of the National Hemp Industries Association.

The Present Situation in the UK with Regard to Hemp Building Materials and Systems.
Alex first used Hempcrete materials to repair an Oak framed building in the UK and has since gone on to write, with William Stanwix “The Hempcrete Book” one of the latest additions to the published information on the subject. His company UK Hempcrete is one of the leaders in the UK which gives Alex a good position to look at the potential of these materials to solve our emissions problems in the construction sector.

Will is a qualified building surveyor and is currently consulting with HG Matthews producing hempcrete blocks from UK hemp and working on a UK binder. Will also provides consultancy, technical design and training for people interested in building with hempcrete and other natural building materials.

Study of Indoor Air Quality in a variety of environments including Hempcrete
Part of the team at Native Chartered Architects, Rachel is an architect who is passionate about the social role of architecture, particularly in mitigating and adapting to climate change, and has a strong background in sustainable design with practical experience of using and specifying natural materials in construction. Rachel completed her Part 2 Architecture qualification at the Centre for Alternative Technology; during her studies she presented at the 4th International Hemp Building Symposium held in Wales 2014. She is also currently Treasurer of the York Architectural Association, the local branch of the RIBA.

Originally involved with the real estate industry, Henry attended the first Hemp Building Workshop in Berthoud, Fort Collins, Colorado led by Steve Allin and was convinced that this was the material to build with for the future. He has since gone on to help build the first hemp home at the Community First Village in Austin Texas which provides housing and many other social and health needs to the homeless in the city and surrounding area.

Comparative monitoring of replacement infill materials for historic timber-framed buildings.
Chris Whitman is a British architect with 20 years of experience both in practice and academia. Currently he is a lecturer and Course Leader of the MSc Sustainable Building Conservation, at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, where he has recently completed his PhD studying the “The Distribution Of Historic Timber-Framed Buildings in the UK and the Impacts of Their Low Energy Retrofit.” He was the winner of the Association for Preservation Technology International Martin Weaver Scholarship in 2015 and winner of their Oliver Torrey Fuller Award in 2017. He has also recently contributed to the upcoming 2nd edition of the Encyclopaedia of Vernacular Architecture of the World.
